Historic Tier List

Our BO3 Historic Tier List is based on the latest MTGA ladder data and, where possible, event results, top finishes, etc.
These are then reviewed by format expert Kapala_MTG, to give a clear look at the metagame.

S - Tier

The Best of the Best

These decks are format-warping and dominate the meta to an unhealthy degree.

This is the tier where some form of intervention is likely needed to reign them in. It is rare for decks to meet this criteria.

A - Tier

Ahead of the Pack

These are the outstanding go-to competitive decks with the highest winrates and largest meta percentages.

They have the most consistently strong performances and are what would be expected to see in the majority of top 8 results and high on the Arena ladder.

Golgari Yawgmoth
Izzet Phoenix

B - Tier

The Core

These are competitive decks that deliver strong results and need to be respected in their own right, but are a step below the top decks.

It would not be surprising to see them perform well in any competitive event, but don't expect them to always make the top cut.

Azorius Flash
Ruby Storm
Boros Auras
DImir Midrange
Gruul Valakut
Jund Midrange

C - Tier

Viable

These are decks that will be encountered sparsely in competitive play.

They often have strengths that rival decks higher on the tierlist, but some critical flaw that causes them to not perform consistently as strong as their contemporaries.

Gruul Valakut
Simic Eldrazi
Izzet Wizards

D - Tier

Last of the Playables

This is the border between decks that are played with serious intent and decks played for casual fun. These are often championed by a few dedicated specialists, but by few others.

They tend to be unreliable and below the bar for the power level of the format, but can close the gap with luck, skill, or positive individual matchups.
