With the release of Secrets of Strixhaven, the Pioneer format has some fun tools it now has access to.

In Timeless, games are often decided as early as the deck-building stage. If your goal is to spike the format, then each card you put in your 75 (or 95) should be there for a reason. Let’s do some early theory-crafting and deck building with the release of Secrets of Strixhaven.

Final Fantasy is a Synergy Set, meaning cards matter in terms of their shell. Cards have other types of cards that you want to pair them with, as opposed to having specific cards just being individually powerful. The average power level of each card is high enough to create the illusion of a Power Set, leading a less-savvy player into the trap of simply choosing the best card in a given color. Even the most powerful rares and mythics don’t function well outside of their intended decks and archetypes. With this in mind and the benefit of card data, there are a few conclusions we can draw about what you need to prioritize and how to approach your draft:

Like the original Strixhaven, SOS includes a Mystical Archives bonus sheet packed with spells that have historically dominated older formats. This time, that bonus sheet looks poised to reshape Timeless entirely. Let’s break down the most important additions arriving on April 21st.

Golgari Midrange is a powerful attrition deck that has arisen in Pioneer, mainly in response to the Izzet Prowess strategy. It has many strong answers to the problematic permanent proliferating play patterns of prowess in Culling Ritual, as a way to sweep up almost every card in the deck and use the excess mana to play out a powerful top-end threat.

This league primarily focused on the post Eldrazi ban, pre Food Chain metagame that existed just before TMNT was released on Arena; as such, the lists do not reflect a metagame with Food Chain decks nor decks to combat them!
